Rare Finnish Handcufs - Konepaja Voima Patented 1928

This is a rare item indeed. The predecessor to the H & R Cuffs, at least as far as I can tell.

Up for auction is a very rare and beautiful set of the Finnish Konepaja Voima handcuffs. They were patented in July 27, 1928 by Kosti Albinius Hangelin in Helsinki, patent # 12928. The shape is quite similar to Harrington & Richardson Super Handcuffs 123 with a U.S. patent from 1934. You can say these handcuffs are the forerunner and the original pattern. Their appearance is also somewhat chunkier compared to the H&R. One bow is stamped “Konepaja Voima Helsinki” and the other “PAT HAK No 1731”. The stamping “PAT HAK” mean Patentti Hakemus Numero” = Patent application number.

These handcuffs are in excellent condition and have never been rusty. Very smooth action. They double lock by turning the key anti-clockwise, just like the H&R. This set doesn’t come with a key but an H&R key works excellent and is very easy to get for a few dollars.

The shipping cost is $22 worldwide, insurance is extra. - eBay

This set of handcuffs sold for $457.50 (Plus $22 Shipping from Sweden).

Here is another set that came up for auction recently. Seems that they are rare, but oddly enough this is the third set to come up for auction in the last year. But take note that each one of these can be the last for a while, and three total does not add to many collections at all.

Finnish made Konepaja Voima handcuffs with original key and original markings.

Handcuffs are working condition. - eBay (9 March 09)
This set of handcuffs had an opening bid of $450 (Plus Free Shipping) but did not attract any bids. It was relisted here (17 March 09) and sold for $419.
