1904 St Louis Worlds Fair Souvenir Brass Cast Iron Padlock

Here is another example of the World's Fair padlock. Given the number of examples, it seems that there is no standard price for these locks as rougher examples have gone for more than some of the more pristine samples. I guess it is the luck of the draw and who else is competing for the same specific lock. I still have yet to figure it out, losing out as an active bidder on a number of these. No matter, time is on my side for this lock, I think.

 

Original, large brass and iron lock manufactured by the Eagle Lock Company of Terryville, Connecticut. It is in very fine condition - showing some minor wear from use but the embossed medallions are in fine condition. The Padlock comes with 2 keys that work!

Brass medallion on one side with text that reads "World's Fair, 1904, St Louis U.S.A." and another brass medallion on the opposite side with a depiction of the Official Seal of the Fair.

The body of the Padlock is made of iron while the hasp and the applied medallions are made of brass. Measures approx. 2 1/2” at its widest and 3 1/2" tall. Weighs over 1/2 pound. - eBay (2 Dec 2013)

I'm not sure why I do not own this one, but somehow I either missed it or didn't have the money. Either way, someone has an awesome specimen of the 1904 World's Fair padlock.

Excellent condition. The key supplied with the lock is not original. It is a re-cut key that does open the lock with patience. You will have to find a blank and have a proper key made.

I have yet to acquire one of these World's Fair padlocks, but I guess that it one of the joys of collecting, the hunt. There does seem to be a bunch of these floating around. More common than the 'Empire City Subway' padlock that I have only seen on eBay once.

These World's Fair padlocks come up accasionally, but I do not recall another being sold with a working key.

ST. LOUIS 1904 WORLD'S FAIR PADLOCK

For auction is this padlock from the 1904 St. Louis Louisiana Purchase World's Fair. Made by Eagle Lock Company it comes with its original matched key. The lock is in very good used condition with honest wear as you can see in the photos. The springs are strong and the action is perfect, opening and closing. 1904 WORLD'S FAIR PADLOCK

- 1904 WORLD'S FAIR PADLOCK, EAGLE LOCK CO. - Here is a neat Old Padlock from the Eagle Lock Co. advertising the 1904 World's Fair in St. Louis. These were given out at the fair as promotional items. This one was rescued from a crawlspace so there is no key, found it in the floor dirt. It was cleaned up but I didn't spent alot of time doing it. It is a bigger lock, measures about 2 1/2" across the face. - eBay (15 March 09)
