Sliding Key Padlock

...a sliding key padlock that I'm assuming is English made as the only wording on it are "Provisionally Protected" which is similar to the American "Patent Protected". The lock is all steel with a brass keyhole cover and a brass key guide inside, The lock measures 3.375" tall, 2.5" wide,.75" deep. the key is a Odell style sliding key that is inserted into the front and slid up to unlock and slid down to relock..

This is a pretty neat design. 'church' gate latch sliding keys are pretty common on eBay. This is the first time I can recall seeing this kind of design in a padlock.

1890s RPO lock padlock

Here is an example of a recent sale for this kind of seal padlock.

 

 

1890s cast brass case lock with rotating shackle This padlock has a cast case, shackle collar, and rotating shackle made of architectural bronze. It is sold with a fitted key. What you see is what you get. The serial number is H 8798 and it has been opened 0354 times --I tried it a couple of times after taking the last photo to make certain that it works smoothly. The key opens the lock and can be removed.

Brass Good Luck Horseshoe PadLock

Horseshoe padlocks are pretty neat. I do have a couple of them. This one however appears to be in very good condition.

You are bidding on a neat solid brass lock padlock with working key shaped like a horseshoe with Good Luck printed on both sides. The key to the lock has a horseshoe on it as well and shown. The lock measures 2 inches wide and 2 3/4 inches tall. The lock measures about a 1/2 inch thick. Very neat little good luck lock. QUARTER MASTERS DEPT. - U.S. 1882 Padlock

Well this is a somewhat rare pandcake padlock.

Push Key Goffin Padlock

Here is a rarer padlock.

Wonderful Vintage Push Key Goffin-type padlock. The lock is not marked but it is a Goffin type, and it has a working key. The lock has spring to the shackle and the lock has some nicks and minor dents, see photos. Great Size: This is a big lock weighing 1 lb 8 oz. The size is 3 1/8" x 4" x 1 1/4". - eBay (31 Jan 2012)

Monastery key with it lock door, 100 to 200 years old

These monestary keys are common enough. But I have always wondered what the lock itself looked like. Here is an example of the lock and how the key fits within it.

Wells College 6 lever pushkey pancake padlock

There are lots of items listed in eBay that have 'Rare' in the description. I tend not to include that description in the postings as Rare is pretty much relative.

The one good indication of how rare an item is, is the price that an item sells for. For me, you are getting into the rare territory once you get to $500 and above. This is why I have labels recognizing items that sell for $500 and over $1,000.

This here padlock might be rare. The owner certainly thinks so and has it listed for well over $1,000. That said, I think this is the third time listing it with no buyer so far. Still, you only need one buyer who is willing to pay suck a price to make you a happy seller...

This is a rare "Wells College" 6 lever pancake padlock. The lock rates a 9 on a scale of 3-9, 9 being the rarest in the pancake padlock list. This measures 2 1/4" x 2 1/2" and is in excellent overall condition with very light wear and just a few minor dings. No hammer dents, no prying with a screwdriver. This has at some point I think been cleaned and lacquered. You'll have to look long and hard for a better example. Buyer pays s/i. Paypal payment due within 3 days. Ornate German Push Key Story Padlock

Here is an interesting padlock. While it is described as a story lock, it is not one that is consider a true story padlock by the Arnall PADLOCK COLLECTOR guide. At any rate, it is a nice padlock. Be nice to know more about it.

This is the only one of these I have ever seen. It is a push key mechanism with the keyhole on the side. It is in near Mint condition. 2 5/8" tall. Steel. No key. - eBay (7 Nov 2011)

This has to be the most expensive pancake padlock I have ever run across.

I have no idea how rare or what the right price is for this padlock. Since I do not recall ever seeing another of these locks around, I suspect that it is rare. However, for this price I would rather try and purchase something like an Oregon boot or McKenzie Mitts that at least looks expensive instead of something that looks just like a $40 padlock.

Pair of Champion 4-Lever Push Key Padlocks - Keyed Alike

Nice that the pair is keyed alike.

Up for auction is a great example of a pair of Rare Brass Champion 4 Lever Push Key Padlock s Pad lock by Miller with key that operates both locks (keyed alike). The front of the lock is marked Champion 4 Lever. The key is marked Champion 4 Lever on one side and Miller Lock Co. Phila, USA on the other. One of the two locks is marked Made in USA on the reverse side of the shackle, the other does not. Each locks measures approx. 2 5/8 inches in height and 2 inches in width and 1/2 inch in thickness. The condition of both of these locks are mint with only minor scratches and some minor oxidation. These locks have not been cleaned but were barely ever used. Both locks are in perfect working order. This is a rare opportunity to find a matched set in such perfect condition. They would be a great edition to your antique padlock collection. - eBay (28 March 09)
