Walden Tool Handcuffs

You know that you have reached a point of satisfaction in collecting when you see opportunities and pass on them. A year ago I would have snapped this up when I spotted it. For some reason I saw it when it was first listed and... did nothing. I have only seen two others and I thought the price was fair. Apparently so did another collector.

Congratulations to them for the newest addition to their collection.

Up for sale is a very rare set of Walden handcuffs patented in Boston Mass. around 1918. Due to the delicate design not many of these have survived and would be a great addition to anyone's collection. This set was brass plated or similar and is the only pair I've seen like such in any collection. Both sides lock and unlock accordingly and the "arming buttons" also work. One post is missing but does not prevent a key from working. As seen in the photos the plating is worn in a few places which I reckon can be expected for being nearly 100 years old. - eBay (13 May 2013)

Vintage WALDENLOCK Handcuffs

This listing is for a an interesting set of hand cuffs.

I can't really decide if they are the real thing or a toy, as they appear to have a release latch that I just can't imagine being functional on the real thing, but at any rate.....

They are made by Walden Tool Company, Boston, Mass and call themselves the WALDENLOCK HANDCUFF PAT. APL'D FOR

IDEAL CLOCK FACE COMBINATION PADLOCKS

I would like to think that these locks had some purpose, but I suspect that they were only meant for decoration.

Antique IDEAL CLOCK FACE COMBINATION PADLOCK * 2 Locks

Fresh out of a local estate, you are bidding on an antique clock face combination padlock that has 2 separate locks connected by a chain. This may actually be 2 separate locks but since they came from the same estate and are of the same style I am offering them together. Each has a 7/8” diameter x 3/8” thick nickel-plated brass cylinder with a clock face on the bottom surface and writing on side of cylinder reads “IDEAL” PAT APPLIED FOR MADE IN U.S.A. The specifics of each are as follows:

Padlock with 1” high flat-sided U-shackle, VG to Fine condition with light edge wear, circular scratches on face and 1 replaced clock hand. Padlock with 8” attached chain, Excellent condition with very light wear.

I was not able to figure out the combination for either lock but I am sure they will work if you figure out the right time. Offered together with NO RESERVE. - eBay (26 July 2009)

The neat thing about combination locks is that there is such a variety of them.

Unusual Double Clock Face Combination Padlock

A very interesting combination padlock with an odd shape:

5 3/4" tall by 5" wide padlock. When clock faces are lined up to correct time hours and minuted, the bottom bar springs open - Very strong Spring. Works Good, Left face has 2 hands and the right face has 1. Includes combination. Paint is very good. Small loss on top edge, plating on cross bar is worn. Top logo looks like, "JKS", but not sure. Backstamped "3000". - eBay

If I had to guess, I would say that this is a bicycle lock.

Rare "Vintage handcuffs Walden Tool Co with key"

This is a very cool looking pair of handcuffs. I was thinking of bidding on it, until the bidding got into the hundreds:

For auction are vintage hand cuffs marked Walden Tool Co. Boston Mass. I know nothing about handcuffs, but I would consider them to be in good working condition - with key. They measure approx. 9" long. - eBay

With that short description and one photo, these handcuffs finally went for $1,306.87 (Plus $4.50 in shipping) So someone thinks these are very rare. I have never seen this type up for bid before so they are probably right, or have lots of money.
