Another Set of Bean Giant Handcuffs

Here is a fine example of a rare set of Bean Giant Handcuffs. Before the end of the auction I had a conversation with another collector who estimated that it would go for over $2,000 given the good condition. So it seems that someone got a good deal.

Antique Bean Giant handcuffs. These are an outstanding example of these highly collectible cuff. They are fully functional with a replacement key. I have been watching this model sell for the last year and I believe this is one of the finest examples that has come on the market. - eBay (22 July 2010)

This Bean Giant had a high bid of $1,550 (Plus $7.50 Shipping). The only reason I have for this not selling for more is that like everywhere else, most collectors are simply tapped out with little cash to spare on more cuffs. For me, I had just bought a second Bean Giant on 4 July, never expecting that my bid would win out at under $1,000.

19th C Cotterill Patent Climax Detector Padlock

A beautiful padlock.

This is a rare 19th century Cotterill Patent Climax Detector padlock, complete with original key. The padlock is marked ’unpickable and powder-proof’, as well as with all the name details. Measures 13.4cm top to bottom when closed, and is in good working order. There are a few age related knocks, to be expected, but generally excellent. The lock is not stiff, the original key is still present, and it would be a perfectly usable padlock. I don’t know if there was originally a keyhole cover, but if so it is no longer present. - eBay (27 June 2010)

This padlock had a high bid of 1,131.11 British Pounds/$1,719.63 (Plus 23Pounds Shipping).

SMITH EGGE Padlock Lock GIANT 1877 Pat.

I like how these padlocks look. The key operation is cool as well.

Antique SMITH & EGGE Padlock w/ push key

I believe it to be brass.

Lock & key work great!

I believe it's from the 1800's, Very Rare! It has a Design Engraved on the Front, along with the Patent Date and Manufacturer. Engraved on the Front are: "SMITH & EGGE MF'G CO"-"BRIDGEPORT CT"--"PATENTED SEPT 4 1877".

The Screws or Rivets holding this lock together are little domes with a Cross on each one.The shackle has the Word: "GIANT" engraved. The shackle & the Bottom Side appear to be Copper. ROOT LOCK Bicycle Combination Lock

Here is an interesting bicycle lock.

Fresh from my personal collection.

Here is one of the finest antique miniature combination locks ever made. I estimate the chain to be 11 - 12 inches in length, while the lock body is only 1/2 inch thick and 3/4 inches in diameter. It takes a four number combination, however I do not have the combo for this. - eBay (11 June 2010)

This padlock had a high bid of $292 (Plus $4.95 Shipping).

Acme Padlock - E. Cotterill & Co, Padlock

What is there to say. This is a very nice padlock.

Early "124" number (same number on original key). Very nice condition; unusual lock mechanism by Cotterill works smoothly/well. Also unusual bitted key. Maker's name details stamped on lock, key and shackle.

Drop is held in position over keyhole by a spring stub. Brass case has 3 neatly located screws around edge; presumably to allow circular top plate to be removed for demonstration/exhibition use. Lock was purchased from major private collection sale at Sothebys, London - a rare lock.

Size 5" (13cm) long x 3.1"(8cm) wide x 0.9"(2.2cm) deep. key 2.4" long.

On 25-Jun-10 at 19:54:39 BST, seller added the following information:

Please note correction to approximate age of lock is c.1869 in place of c.1846 - apologies. - eBay (1 July 2010)

This padlock had a high bid of 1,133 British Pounds/$1,720.91 (Plus 13.50 Pounds Shipping).

1876 PALMER'S MANACLES - HANDCUFFS

I have yet to get myself a pair of Palmer cuffs. I think it will still be a while given how seldolm these come up.

Patented January 1876, the Palmer family of manacles is among the most interesting and bizarre of all the older shackles produced in this country. You see Houdini photos with type of cuffs on him. Each shackle consists of three stamped metal sections, which are hinged together and which can be closed to form a circle.......This set has a great patina, and is marked Palmer's Pat Jan 1876 Walton Brothers N.Y. They measure 6" long x 3" in diameter & are 1-7/8" high. I don't know what size number they are. The hinged cuffs are made of hand hewn steel & had a triangular ended opener [not keyed]. This piece is missing, but they can be opened with a file. There was also a release button, but that is gone. Overall really nice antique condition, in an item rarely seen for sale...only in pictures of other people's collections....These came from a collector & are guaranteed authentic & original.....Only other pair I could find for sale online was $898.00....This owner says sell........ - eBay (5 June 2010)

This set of cuffs had a high bid of $1,275 (Plus $10 Shipping).
