This interesting padlock sold for $74.99 (Plus $9.70 Shipping)This is one of the most unusual locks I have ever seen! This cast iron and brass padlock measures about 2 3/8" long by about 2 1/16" wide (not including the awesome chain). It reads on the front "TRANSATLANTIC INDEMNITY BAGGAGE CHECKING COMPANY, 12537, PATd SEP. 27, 1887". It is in very nice shape with typical general wear from age and use just as pictured. It has no key. I am guessing that this was used for securing and cataloging shipments and belongings on TransAtlantic Steamships. Never saw one before and will probably never see one again. If you have a lock collection without one of these then safe-to-say your collection is incomplete!!! So get it while you can! - eBay (16 March 09)
