1857 Pin Tumbler Linus Yale PadLock

This is a very interesting padlock. I have never seen one like it before. The price qualifies this for being 'rare.'

You are bidding on an authentic Linus Yale Pin Tumbler pad-lock patented in 1857. Linus Yale was an American inventor and manufacturer of locks. His most famous invention was the re-design of the ancient Egyptian wooden lock with pins and now one of the most popular lock designs worldwide. Linus Yale opened a lock shop in the early 1840s in Newport, New York, specializing in bank locks.

This is truly very rare and hard to find. Very collectible. One is on display at the Connecticut museum of locks. If you notice the above picture 2 & 3, when the patent number was stamped, the last number looks like an error and was over stamped with a 7. This makes this lock very collectible. Pictures 4 shows the design and 5 the patent. - eBay (6 Jan 2012)

This padlock had a 'Buy-it-Now' price of $800 (Plus $15 Shipping).

Yale & Towne 1896 Lions Head Brass and Iron Lock Padlock

Here is a nice Lion's Head brass Yale padlock. Too bad it does not have a key to go with it. Still, it makes a nice paperweight.

You are viewing an antique Yale & Towne brass and iron lock in the shape of a lions head. The lock has a fine patina and is in very good original and as found condition. It is missing the key. The front of the brass shackle is stamped: " Yale & Towne Mfg. Co." and below that "Stamford Ct. U.S.A." and the number "36" near the bottom. The back is stamped: "Patented Feb. 18 1896".

The lock measures 3" long and 1 3/4" at its widest point. - eBay (23 October 2011)
This padlock had a high bid of $295.32 (Plus Shipping).

Rare Yale Padlock

It is always nice to see a rare padlock. For me the definition is anything that goes for over a $1,000. (or at least is valued over $1,000)

YOU ARE BIDDING ON A VINTAGE ORIGINAL BRASS PADLOCK. I COULD NOT FIND ANY MANUFACTURER'S MARKS NOR CAN I DATE THIS PADLOCK, BUT I DID FIND SOME LETTERS AND NUMBERS STAMPED IN THE PADLOCK (SEE PHOTO). LOCK MEASURES 2-1/4" WIDE, 3-3/8" HIGH AND 1/2" THICK.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On Feb-04-10 at 06:55:03 PST, seller added the following information:

THANKS TO A FELLOW EBAYER, HE HAS GIVEN ME THE CORRECT INFORMATION ON THIS PADLOCK. THIS IS A SUPER RARE LINUS YALE SENIOR MADE IN THE ORIGINAL YALE WORKSHOP IN NEWPORT, NY CIRCA 1840.
- eBay (10 Feb 2010)

Vintage Yale Lock Padlock 4" Tall

A nice large padlock.

This auction is for a vintage Yale padlock; I believe it is the largest in this series of Yale locks. It is 4" tall and 3" wide and 1-1/8" thick. This is a massive chunk of lock. It says YALE on one side and Y&T on the other. It is in excellent condition. The edges of the logo lettering are sharp and crisp indicating very little wear and probably very light use. The logo on the shackle reads "Yale & Towne Mfg Co. Stanford, Conn. USA". Both keys are original and measure just under 3" long. The lock snaps open instantly when the key is turned. I haven't seen these on Ebay very often and certainly not in such great condition as this one. - eBay (21 April 09)

This padlock had a high bid of $139 (Plus $9 Shipping).

US Military Padlock - USMC Marines - YALE

Here is an interesting lock where you have to push the key into the lock after it is insterted, which then pushes up the shackle. Maybe the person did not know had this type of lock operated, which is why they could not open it. Or perhaps the keys do not belong to this lock.

This is a YALE USMC padlock. It measures 2 1/8" tall and 1 1/8" wide. I am including 2 keys but they DO NOT unlock the padlock (both fit the padlock but do not open it). Please keep this in mind when bidding. Right below the USMC is "YALE & TOWNE MFG. CO. The key code on the bottom of the lock is S9413. The code on one of the keys is S9412;the other key does not have a code. - eBay (4 April 09)

This padlock sold for $51.25 (Plus $4.75 Shipping).

YALE LOCK 'OLD AND LARGE'

This has a really nice large bow. Certainly a rare version of a nice padlock:

* 'NC' IS STAMPED INTO CASTING ON THE LEFT CORNER ON Y & T SIDE

The seller then added the following from a viewer:

Question & Answer:
Q: This is a Yale #877 Padlock from the early 1900's (1901-1926). It was designed for use locking heavy chains. Standard 4 lever lock, uses the Yale #89 key blank. The "NC" is 1/2 of the key code. There should be a number stamped in the right corner that's the other 1/2.

A: I appreciate the information and know others will too. There is a number on the right corner, possibly 459. Thanks for the info. - eBay (22 April 09)

ANTIQUE POCKET DOOR KEY SIGNED "YALE" VICTORIAN AGE

This auction has a good explanation for the purpose of these type folding keys.

This auction is for an antique steel and brass pocket door key that is signed "YALE". I have never had a signed pocket door key. It measures about 1&5/8 folded and 2&1/8 open inches long. The old Victorian houses had sliding doors which slid back into the walls and these keys were designed for these doors. The key would either slide into itself or fold over so that the key could be left in the lock when the door was opened . The key plate was made with a recessed area around the keyhole to accommodate the bow. - eBay (22 Jan 09)

This key sold for $23.50 (Plus $2.75 Shipping).

Antique F234 YALE PADLOCK

This is an interesting variation of the Yale Padlock:

This awesome old lock was actually on a trap door (no kidding!) inan old real estate purchased home. Check my other auctions for some of the items that were behind the door! I don't know much about locks, but this one is very cool. Measures about 4" high, 3" wide and about an inch deep. It almost looks like it came off of a pirates treasure chest! In working condition. They key has a light amount of oil on it, I guess to keep the inside of the lock lubricated. Thanks for looking and good luck! - eBay (17 March 09)

This padlock sold for $252.49 (Plus $5.95 Shipping).

Antique Miniature Brass Yale Y&T Padlock

A very nice miniature padlock:

For auction is a very tiny YALE Y&T padlock. This miniature is the smallest size ever made by Yale, and rarely comes up for sale. As you can see in my picture a quarter nearly covers the entire lock. It is in excellent condition with much of it's original factory finish remaining. The shackle has YALE & TOWNE MFG CO stamped into one side and STAMFORD CONN. USA on the other. The only fault I can find with the lock is the small casting flaw which obscures the "Y" in yale. The two keys are made of stamped steel and have rust. The one key will clean up nicely with a wire wheel, however I do not know how the other will turn out. It may have some pitting. Both keys unlock the padlock easily and the shackle pops open.

The tiny lock stands only 1.059 inch from base of body to very top of shackle, and measures .811 inch across and is .345 inch thick. The two original keys each measure .915 inch long. All measurements taken with a dial caliper. - eBay (16 March 09)

This miniature padlock sold for $99.95 (Plus $7.75 shipping).

Yale & Towne LION Faced Story Lock. Pat. Feb.11 1896

I am traveling so I am not able to check if this is a true story lock or not. Nonetheless, it is an interesting lock indeed.

Up for bid is a YALE Lion Face Lock. Patented February 18th 1896. The shackle is stamped with PAT. (Patent) Feb. 18 1896. Opp side marked Yale & Towne Mfg. Co. Stamford Conn. USA

Roaring Lion face on both sides. Shackle still retains some of the original gilt brass finish over brass. 90% of the original black paint still remains over the steel case. Excellent shape. Shackle has spring to it. No key.

It takes a #25 key. The pictures should tell the story. It would be hard to find one in better shape than this. Size is 3.0 tall x 1.75 wide x.80 thick (nose to nose).

Check out my other padlocks up for auction. Will be listing a few every week - eBay

This interesting padlock had an opening bid of $180 and a buy it now price of $250 (Plus Free Shipping) but failed to attract any bids.

YALE & TOWNE BICENTRIC PADLOCK

This is an interesting padlock with a master and slave keyway.

I offering a special Yale & Towne Bicentric padlock with TWO keyholes - Made For OSU - Ohio State Univ. I've also included a photo along with this lock from an original 1913 Yale catalog advertisement of this very lock! Lock works well, whether using one or both keys. One is considered a "Master key", while other is a "Change key". This is an older version with the "Y&T" ( Yale & Towne ) logo on one side, and "Yale" on reverse side. A rare padlock indeed. Would make a very nice addition to anyone's lock collection and/or person interested in odd ball unusual items! - eBay (18 Jan 09)

This padlock sold for $56 (Plus $7.50 shipping).
