EARLY HIATT GANG CHAIN END LOCK

Here is a very nice handcuff style chain end lock/padlock.

This is an early Hiatt gang chain end lock. Hiatt are famous for making Handcuffs but this is a more unusual item to find. Comes with it's original key and both lock and key are stamped "Hiatt" and "31". Measures 6cm at widest point. I've found very little information on this type of lock and I have to thank www.alexhandcuffs.com for the information on their website. 100% original item and sold without reserve. - eBay (18 July 2009)

COLD WAR H.O. BOEHME MODEL SPL600 MISSLE SILO LOCK

A very interesting lock. Shouldn't there be a warehouse full of these things somewhere?

1902 Patent Date Locking Buckle

Here is a locking belt buckle.

This Listing is for An Antique Brass Locking Buckle with the Orignal Key. It is marked L&H Co. PAT SEPT.2, 02. The Buckle is locked by pushing down on the small tab. It is unlocked by using the key. It works great. The buckle measures 1-1/4 Inches Long and 1-1/8 Inches wide. I don't know what this locking buckle was used for. OFFERED AS IS. - eBay (May 09)

Van Dorn Prison Jail Lock & Spike Key

I think jail locks are interesting, if you can incorporate them into the house somehow....

The zinc diecast case couldn't survive the forces of slamming and pressure on the door and usually disintegrated. Very few of these locks survived, very easy to crack, so was discontinued after a short production run. These ladies were sensitive! Generally covered in primer and paint, gray or black, but as you can see, I wired wheeled it to it's original off the production line look. Since it's cast iron, it does not rust. Been sitting in my collection on a book shelf for years. It can easily be primed and painted. If it is painted (by the new owner), black with gold paint detailing the lettering would look really sharp!

Now all the dirty little details. No surprises...There were 2 "tiny" holes drilled into the lock into the solid body by 2 (of the 4)bolt holes . They do not penetrate the inside of the lock. Why they were drilled I don't know1. This is a 4 lever lock. When I purchased this lock, a key did not come with it. I spent a small fortune buying spike keys and finally found one that would accomindate 2 of the 4 levers. The other 2 levers had to be grinded down a tad bit to fit the key. In the "un-locked" position, they pretty well act as spacers, but in the "locked" position, they function as they should, 4 levers holding the bolt shut solid, not comprimising security. The levers function how they are suppose to, not a security issue. I would of liked to find spare levers for the old girl, but forgetaboutit...never found any for this lock....

Inside the lock on the back plate it reads "12-403-1 SUPER CAST". (See last picture)

Folks, I cannot express the rarity of this old girl. I would put it in the same catagory of a Pauly w/barrel key. It will be a nice addition for you lock hounds! - eBay

Vintage Prison Cell Door Lock Padlock & Key Yuma Type

Jail Prison Lock Set - Folger Adam

I have a similar lock. Not sure what I plan to do with it, but I am sure that I will find a use for it once I own my own home. Maybe use it as a lock to what will be the door to my home office.

Brass Pool Cue Rack Lock

I have one of these. Now I just need my own pool table to puse it to protect my own pool cue.

Brass US Customs Lock with Counter

This seems to be a very rare lock with enclosed counter used by US Customs at some time long ago:

This a great looking old brass lock marked “U.S. CUSTOMS”. Serial number 22361 is stamped on the face of the lock, and “S/2” is stamped on the closing portion above. The amazing feature of this lock is that is has a little door on the side that opens to reveal a counter that tells you how many times the lock was opened by the way of 4 tumblers (like in a combination lock) behind a glass partition. Currently it reads “J 0 3 6“. Unfortunately, I do not have the key. Back of the lock is marked “PAT./NOV.19, 1889/MAY 19, 1891/MADE BY/ SMITH & EGGE/MF’G Co./BRIDGEPORT/CONN.” Another great looking unique item. - As posted on eBay

This item sold for $385 dollars. The other well known counter lock, the US Registered Mail lock seems to be occasionally available on eBay for about $100 when the lock includes a working key. While I mention that the lock is very rare, that is as far as publicly available locks. The lock has a high serial number, so theoretically there can be thousands of these in a box somewhere or they might even still be in use. (Not likely given the age and the availability of cutable sutoms seals.)

USPO Street Letter Box Lock

Here is a nicely tarnished/weathered US Post Office Street Letter Box Lock:

Compared to other mail locks these are pretty common on eBay. Less so with keys but those are not so rare either. Keys normally fit the locks with the same number stamped on them. Locks with little wear oddly enough seem to be cheaper than those with wear as above.

It consists of a eight buttons which can be pushed up or down. By pushing the correct buttons each in the right direction will open the lock.

Reg'd US Mail Lock

Here are some photos of an antique Registered US Mail Lock.

The special feature of these locks is that they have a built in counter that records every time the lock is opened.

I have a couple of these locks and it seems that the keys are the same for all the locks, althought it could be that I have a master key. I have another key that only opens one of the locks, so anything is possible.
