huge brass Hobbs seal padlock

Here is an interesting rare seal padlock.

This is a rare old "Hobbs & Co" all brass customs excise padlock. This is in good overall condition with age appropriate wear, great untouched patina and comes with a working key. This monster measures 3 1/4"w x 5 3/8"h x 1 1/2"thick and weighs several pounds. This is a rare lock and would make a great addition to your collection for 1/2 the cost the last one was offered to me for. - eBay (7 Dec 2010)

This padlock had an opening bid of $475 (Plus $10.95 Shipping) but failed to attract any bids.

Cotterill style R & E padlock

This is a very cool style padlock. Unfortunately, this price is well out of my price range.

Super rare Russel and Erwin Cotterill style padlock. This is one of only a handful known to exist. This one actually has the original keyhole cover On most of these locks, the keyhole cover is lost and a reproduction keykole cover has been attached. The lock is in excellent condition, has a beautiful patina and the body has no dents in it. Comes with 2 original keys, both of which are marked "R & E". - eBay (14 Dec 2010)

This padlock had a high bid of $1,995 (Plus $6.95 Shipping).

1876 CLARKE 10-Letter Combination Padlock

This is a very nice combination padlock. Unfortunately my limit was a little less than what at least one other person was willing to pay to get this padlock. So it seems that I will be waiting a little longer before I can get my hands on one.

Here we have a rare find! An early Clarke combination padlock. The only markings I see are on the back. 'Pat'd Feb.4, 1873, Reissued Feb.29, 1876'. These are Henry Clarke patents. Lock appears to be made of solid bronze. It is a 10-letter combination lock. I requires a 3 letter combination to open. It is in perfect working condition and I do have the combination for it.

The instructions to open the lock are as follows: You pull out the large ring in order to pull all the buttons in the OUT position. You then push the ring back in for easier access to the buttons. You then push IN the 3 buttons corresponding with the 3-letter combination. You then turn the ring to the right and the lock can then be opened.

This is an antique lock and it does have scratches and wear. Please look at pictures to see the condition. - eBay (12 Dec 2010)

This padlock had a high bid of $616.67 (Plus $9.99 Shipping).

COLTON'S PATENT JAN 6,1844 PADLOCK

This lock is just too cool. Still, I am shocked for the amount that it went for. This is not the first time one went for close to $2,000. So there seems to be a consensus that they are rare.

ORIGINAL ANTIQUE LARGE IRON PADLOCK COLTON'S PATENT JAN 6,1844. Bought from local estate. Approx 4.5" high and 3" wide, nearly 1" thick. Brass plate reads Colton's patent Jan 6, 1844 / 11. Has unusual original brass key - key turns in lock but it does not open, good condition! Guaranteed original! - eBay (5 Dec 2010)
This padlock had a high bid of $1,703 (Plus $6 Shipping).
