This padlock had a high bid of $3,000 (Plus $10 Shipping). Here we have to offer an early D.K. Miller, push key, pancake padlock manuafactured approximately 1875. This is actually not a working padlock but one of the rare pieces that they made as advertising or promotional items. In researching the Miller Lock Company over the years, we found that they had a good association with the Fairbanks Morse Company as they were a distributor and manufacturer of railroad supplies amongst tons of other items. This piece is in fabulous condition with what apears to be much of the original paint intact. Originally nickel plated, some of this is worn away over the years but overall it is such a rare piece and the condition is great. - eBay (12 June 2010)

The item is 33" long and the chain is 26" long, the ring is 3 1/8" round, the shackle has a 2 3/4" opening, and the chain is 5 /16" thick. This appears to have a chain that would go through the iron ring and the leg iron on the ankle as seen in the old chain gangs. It weighs 3 3/4 lbs. It is a very interesting item to have.... - eBay (18 June 2010)

These shackles are the real thing. They come from my Father’s estate. His notes say Finland, 1800. I sent photos to serious collector who also sells this type of item. He spent a number of years in Finland. He said they are hand made iron shackles as well as confirming the date/period. The chain measures 43 inches long. The chain links are 3 inches long and one inch wide. The cuffs are approximately 1 3/4 inches wide and 3/8 inch thick. The diameter is 3 6/8’s inches. On one side of each cuff near the hinge, there is some impairment due to use. I think not unusual considering they are over 200 years old. They are not broken. The weight is approximately 14 pounds.
It is one thing to watch an old movie and see a chain gang. It is quite another experience to hold these extremely heavy old shackles in my hands and wish they could speak. I am holding a piece of history. - eBay (8 August 2010)
