Small Bramah & Co. Brass Padlock

A very nice and apparently rare padlock:

This is a very scarce and antique, small Bramah & Company all brass padlock.

It is a small padlock, almost a miniature padlock, but not quite. It is operated by the unique and unusual Bramah system in which the unusual Bramah key pushes in levers that open up the padlock.

You push the key in the keyhole, you will feel the key push in against a little resistance.

Than you will turn the key to the right, and you can now lift up the shackle to open the padlock.

The key stays in the padlock until it is locked.

To lock the padlock, you put down the shackle and turn the key to the left, the shackle is now locked, and you can remove the key.

This padlock measures 2 inches high, 1+1/4 inches across, the thickness of the body of the padlock is almost 1/2 inch, but with the tubular key hole entrance, measures close to one inch thick.

The key is a working key, not original and functions superbly, the padlock is in very nice condition, works great and will be one, if not THE, highlight of your collection!

I never thought I would sell this, but times being as they are, some treasures must go.

This padlock is not cheap, and collectors know what this is. The Bramah is considered one of the best locking systems ever devised, extremely secure, this was state of the art science 100 or so years ago when this was made.

There is a sliding keyhole cover on this little padlock.

On the reverse of this padlock you can see the words, although very faded, BRAMAH & CO., there is also what looks like an address, but can't make out.

On the front of the padlock are the numbers: 10201

I PAID OVER $300.00 FOR THIS PADLOCK A WHILE AGO, $300 IS MY RESERVE, AND THAT IS A VERY FAIR PRICE FOR THIS EXTREMELY SCARCE PADLOCK WITH WORKING KEY. THANKS! - eBay (21 Dec 2009)

This padlock had a high bid of $355 (Plus $11.50 Shipping).
