$10,000 "CIVIL WAR CONFEDERATE LOCK" - Fake

Clearly, this is an obvious fake. The key appears to be similar to those found on the cheap padlocks from India and the CSA looks like it was just stuck on with glue.

I am selling this ONE OF A KIND authentic Confederate States of America Padlock and Key from a collection the Gallery has just received. This Padlock is in beautiful condition and works perfectly.

The lock is a perfect example of the kind of quality you will find in Paloma Gallery's collections.

The Padlock is made of solid brass forged in one piece (nothing soldered). Made in The Old South with a solid, Brass case. The lock also reads, CSA and on the back are #'s 2222. There is a wreath around the letters CSA.

This piece is thought to be 145+ or - years old. It is a historic piece to say the least. One of our local lock experts / collectors (who is a third-generation locksmith) was very impressed and authenticated this lock as a genuine antique. - eBay (23 Dec 2009)

Antique Relic Spanish Colonial Convent Door

Here is a nice-looking antique key.

We have just received another 7 very large Spanish Colonial Keys from one of the convents we work with in South America.

When a nun tells you that each one of these keys is at least 300 years old, because the original convent doors they came from were built at the same time the convent was, (300 years ago), you know they are special! Please see a picture below of one of the actual doors.

We cleaned only one, so you will see how they looked 300 years ago, but we have left the other 6 with their original patina. Each will be auctioned separately, and each will be described in the pictures above; taken next to a ruler.

They each weigh between 1/3 to ½ pound, and they would look great as a paper weight on a desk, or in a library.

Cherub / Cupid story padlock

Here is another story lock example:

I am no expert on story locks but I think this is a rare and very collectable one. Russell and Erwin produced several slightly different Cherub/Cupid story locks – some with USA stamped on them, slight variations in leaf pattern and so on. I think all are covered under the Henry E. Russell Jr. Design Patent D11308 from 1879. I have not found a picture of this exact one though collectors of this style of lock will know much more than me about it. It is 2 inches wide and a little over 2.5 inches tall with the R&E Co. trademark at the 6 o’clock position on the reverse of the lock. There is a R and E key with it. The lock is working and is in good condition. - eBay (18 Oct 2009)

Here is an interesting set of handcuffs:

In the early 1950s the Horst Stein company in Hannover, Germany, began to market its own line of restraints under the name "Horst Moabit". These restraints were based on several patents issued to inventor and master locksmith Kurt Metk, who produced these restraints in Berlin. Shown below are the patent drawings:

The cuffs I offer here are the model 615. They are completely made of steel and are of the swing-beside design. The two halves of the cuff are connected by means of a strong rivet resulting in an unusual pivot hinge design. These handcuffs are rather restrictive, the following picture was taken from in instruction sheet showing how the cuff was supposed to be applied:

The text says "This is the way my HORST-restraints have to be applied", on the left it says "Right", on the right "Wrong".

The lockcases of the cuffs are stamped with "T52" standing for Type 52, indicating the year of introduction of the Horst Moabit line of restraints, "ges. gesch.", the abbreviation of "gesetzlich geschützt" meaning "protected by law" and "Horst Moabit".

One of the lockcases shows the numbers "757" showing that this particular restraint was made in July 1957.

The handcuff I offer here is in technically perfect condition and comes with the original key. Not many Horst Moabit cuffs are around these days so place your bid now and make this one yours for your collection of restraints or police/prison memorabilia!

D&RG ICE HOUSE Pancake PUSH KEY Padlock

This has to be the most expensive pancake padlock I have ever run across.

I have no idea how rare or what the right price is for this padlock. Since I do not recall ever seeing another of these locks around, I suspect that it is rare. However, for this price I would rather try and purchase something like an Oregon boot or McKenzie Mitts that at least looks expensive instead of something that looks just like a $40 padlock.

This padlock had a 'buy-it-now' price of $4,250 (Plus $8.50 Shipping). Which appears to be a price set for the person who already has everything.
